Volkswagen has integrated an additional tank into its TGI models. In the Polo, the amount of gas increases from 11 to 13.8 kilograms.

This increases the maximum driving distance by 60 kilometers to 368 kilometers. The compact Golf model can now carry 17.3 instead of 15 kilograms of natural gas and can thus travel up to 422 kilometers - an increase of 80 kilometers.

Gas tank for downsized

In addition, a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 130 hp replaces the previous 1.4-liter turbo with 110 hp. The prices for the revised natural gas cars start at 19,800 euros (Polo) and 26,475 euros (Golf).

Fuel tank reduced in size

In order to create space for the additional natural gas tank, the fully-fledged petrol tank that was previously installed was reduced in size. Instead of 40 liters, it now holds an emergency supply of 9 liters. The total range of the vehicles decreases accordingly.

By shrinking the petrol tank, the TGI models are changing from a legal and technical point of view from bivalent to quasi-monovalent natural gas cars. This differentiation simplifies the type approval procedure for the manufacturer, but is currently of no further significance for customers.

The group brands Seat and Skoda are doing the same as Volkswagen and will shortly be launching the Arona and Skoda Octavia as Edgas variants. Not least because of the discussion about the diesel driving bans, the demand for vehicles with self-fuel is back
