The VW Group is now offering the revised Golf Variant as a quasi-monovalent natural gas variant. The compact model can be ordered immediately.

As the carmaker has now announced, the Golf station wagon in conjunction with the seven-speed DSG as a TGI variant in the mid-range Comfort equipment line costs 31,480 euros.

The Wolfsburg-based bestseller with CNG drive now has three instead of two natural gas tanks. As usual, the tanks are installed below the floor so that there are no restrictions in terms of trunk volume.

As VW announced, all three natural gas tanks together would have a total volume of 115 liters. This corresponds to a total filling of 17.3 kilograms. The tanks are made of a plastic or metal reinforced with carbon fibers.

Increased range

The possible fuel supply increases to 18.3 liters. This increases the range by 80 to around 440 kilometers. In return, the size of the petrol tank is significantly reduced, which technically turns the bivalent into a monovalent gas drive. Instead of the 1.4-liter turbo with 110 PS, a 130 PS 1.5-liter turbo with 200 Newton meters is used under the hood. The extra price of 3000 euros compared to the 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine pays off for frequent drivers through the fuel costs. Natural gas is sold more cheaply than petrol and diesel at the filling station thanks to its tax break guaranteed until 2026.

Natural gas vehicles have significantly lower CO2 emissions than combustion engines. Vehicles powered by CNG emit around 25 percent less CO2 than gasoline-powered vehicles. The reason for this lies in the lower carbon content in natural gas.
