Ducati has launched a Superleggera version of the Panigale V4. It's an extreme bike that weighs just 152 kilograms and has an output of 234 hp. As impressive as the data is the price.
Let's go back three years: In spring 2017 Ducati presented the 1299 Superleggera. The monocoque, rear swing arm, rear frame, wheels and cladding are made entirely of carbon and contribute significantly to weight reduction. The V2 engine has also lost 2.1 kilograms, but its output has increased from 197 to 215 hp; with a race kit it should even be 220 hp. Ducati stated the ready-to-drive weight without petrol at 162 kilograms, provided the weight-saving racing exhaust system is installed.

In the meantime, the Panigale has been replaced by the Panigale V4 with the significantly more powerful V four-cylinder engine; In the standard configuration, the 1,103 cubic centimeter engine develops 214 hp, the dry weight of the vehicle is 174 kilograms. The Panigale V4R variant, designed entirely for the race track, realizes 221 hp from 998 ccm displacement at an incredible 15250 rpm; the dry weight of the street-legal vehicle is 172 kilograms. The price climbs from 22,790 to 39,900 euros. Now there is also the Superleggera, whose engine also has a displacement of one liter: The approval-compliant output is 224 hp, with a racing kit it increases to 234 hp.
It weighs just 159 kilograms
The difference is even more blatant when it comes to weight, because Ducati only specifies 159 kilograms for the Superleggera V4. If the red diva is then equipped with the racing exhaust, the weight drops to 152 kilograms. A weight reduction of 9.8 kilograms was achieved compared to the previous model in 2017.
In addition to carbon at all corners and ends, many parts are made of titanium and magnesium and components such as the Öhlins spring elements or the Brembo Stylema R brakes are specially prepared. Of course, the three riding modes (Race A, Race B and Sport) have also been specially developed for the Superleggera. Delivery is scheduled to start in June 2020 and be completed by the end of the year; No more than five vehicles can be built per day.
Of course, all of this has its price. In the case of the Superleggera V4, it is exactly 100,000 euros in Germany. Three years ago, the plant was still charging its German customers 79,000 euros. At that time, the 500 vehicles worldwide were sold out within a few days. That shouldn't be any different this time, despite the higher price. (SP-X)
