Patience is running out for more and more manufacturers. After Renault, Nissan and Hyundai, Kia has now also increased its share of the environmental bonus.

After the industry and the federal government agreed at the car summit in the Chancellery in November to increase the environmental bonus for electric cars by 50 percent to 6,000 euros, nothing has happened since then.

The Commission has only now received the documents required for the EU's review of state aid. It is not clear how long the review process will take. It can take weeks or months.

Penalties if the limit values are not met

An unacceptable circumstance for the manufacturer. If you do not comply with the strict CO2 limits of the EU, you face fines. They can only achieve this by electrifying their models. That is why more and more manufacturers are making advance payments. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the introduction of the increased purchase premium, more and more customers are waiting to make a purchase.

While Hyundai has tripled the manufacturer's share to 6,000 euros, Kia pays its customers 4,000 euros. In addition, there is the state environmental bonus of 2000 euros. The Kia offer applies to all sales contracts concluded from January 30th for vehicles from the e-Niro and e-Soul that have not yet been registered, provided that the increased state share is not paid retrospectively. If the increase in the environmental bonus does not come into effect, the Kia promotion will end on June 30, 2020 at the latest. However, customers would benefit more from the planned official model. Because the manufacturer's share is deducted before VAT is paid, the price advantage is € 6,570.

“Our electric models, which have a wide range and are fully suitable for everyday use, are met with great interest. That is why we give the customer the signal: start now, don't wait any longer! If the increased state share is not paid retrospectively, Kia will compensate for the difference,”said Kia Germany boss Steffen Cost.

Anyone who currently wants to find out about the premium at the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) responsible for applying for the premium will receive the following information. At this point in time, BAFA does not have any information on when and how the directive on the promotion of electrically powered vehicles will be changed. Please refrain from telephone inquiries. As soon as relevant information can be made available, it will be published on this page. Thank you for your understanding."
