The Italian car maker Fiat has presented the new edition of the 500. The small car is offered as a purely electric model at a steep price.
The Fiat 500 also marks the entry into e-mobility for the car company, because the new one is also based on a completely new, battery-electric drive platform.
Visually, the electric 500 looks like a slightly grown facelift version of the 500 that has been built since 2007.

The recognition value of the micro car is correspondingly high. But unlike its role model, there are no more combustion engines for the new version.
118 hp electric motor
Instead, the four-seater is powered by a 118 hp electric motor that allows a sprint from zero to 100 km / h in around 9 seconds and a maximum of 150 km / h. Electricity comes from a 42 kWh battery, which according to WLTP measurements is good for a range of 320 kilometers. Refueling is possible using the CCS standard with up to 85 kW, which theoretically enables fast charging to 80 percent in 35 minutes. With a wallbox, the charging process is extended to 6 to 7 hours.
With the new 500, the driver can choose between three drive programs. In normal mode, the Stromer moves like an ordinary automatic car. In range mode, the electric motor ensures particularly strong deceleration and high recuperation when the accelerator is released, which means that the Fiat drives like a single-pedal vehicle in which the brake is only rarely used. Finally, the Sherpa mode limits the top speed to 80 km / h in favor of maximum range.
Tidy cockpit
The cockpit of the 500 looks very tidy. There is no longer a gearshift lever, instead the driver can choose between driving modes P, N, R and D at the push of a button, as with an automatic. There is a 10.25-inch touchscreen for the Uconnect infotainment system in the center of the dashboard. In the 500, the latest generation 5 is used for the first time, which among other things allows the integration of smartphones via the well-known connectivity standards and also includes remote services, navigation and a hotspot function.
In addition, the 500 should master automated driving at level 2. Accordingly, there are several cameras and ultrasonic sensors on board. Among other things, the cruise control can not only automatically adjust the speed on the vehicle in front, but also take traffic situations and speed limits into account. The collision avoidance also recognizes pedestrians and cyclists. Other helpers are blind spot and drowsiness warnings as well as lane keeping and parking assistants.
You can already pre-order the new 500, but initially only in the special version “la Primera”, which is limited to 500 copies and offers upscale equipment, a convertible roof and a wallbox at a price of around 38,000 euros. The basic version, which will probably be available from summer, could cost less than 30,000 euros. A proud price when you consider that the VW Group offers its electric trio VW e-Up, Skoda Citigo iV and Seat Mii electric for around 22,000 euros. (AG / SP-X)
