Cars with a combined combustion engine, electric motor and natural gas drive are the cleanest vehicles according to the current ranking of the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD). The new environmental list of the association is headed by the Lexus-Hybrid CT 200h, followed by three structurally identical, natural gas-powered small cars from the Volkswagen Group: the VW eco up, the Seat Mii Ecofuel and the Skoda Citigo. The Toyota Yaris Hybrid took first place in the “Climate Best” category.
Weak limit
But the list also makes it clear that there are no revolutionary innovations in cars, according to a press release. VCD spokesman Gerd Lottsiepen called for ambitious CO2 limit values and more realistic consumption and emissions tests. “The best lists show that the fleet limit of 95 grams per kilometer set for Europe for 2020 can be achieved without any problems.” The VCD has a separate list of all-electric cars.
