The Nissan Juke polarizes with its design. But this makes the model of the Japanese stand out from the crowd of the rather pale SUV coming.
This first-generation recipe, which has been successful in view of over a million copies sold, is also followed by the newly launched new edition. But it's not just external stimuli that make the Japanese with French genes interesting.

French genes? Unlike its predecessor, the second generation of Juke is technically a sister model of the Renault Captur. Visually, however, the Nissan variant, which has grown to 4.21 meters in length, differs significantly from its French relatives. The Juke is also the face in the crowd in Generation 2. At the same time, it looks significantly more modern and pleasing than its somewhat curiously drawn predecessor. Thanks to the two-tone paintwork with eye-catching pearl-effect paint in “Fuji Sunset” red, 19-inch wheels and sharp-looking LED daytime running lights, there is one thing that it is not: inconspicuous.
Interior has changed positively
Basically, you experience the interior as progress, which, unlike before, no longer causes anxiety about small cars. There is plenty of room for development at the front and sufficient at the back. The somewhat short but deep trunk offers space for 422 liters of luggage, with the rear seat back folded down it is 1,088 liters.
The sporty charisma of the N-Design equipment variant tested by us is reflected in the interior. At the front you take a seat on strongly contoured seats with headrests integrated into the backrest. Chrome-framed ventilation nozzles, the leather steering wheel flattened at the bottom, a dashboard lined with Alcantara and the start button in the center console add a sporty flavor. There is also a driving mode switch with the "Sport" option. When turned in this direction, there is suddenly a red light atmosphere in the interior, while the steering hardens and the engine turns the gears down more strongly.
Well-mannered everyday car
But actually the Juke is less a sports car than a well-behaved everyday car with some modern conveniences. This includes multi-talented multimedia technology that allows smartphones to be connected without any problems or provides Internet-based services such as real-time traffic information. If the so-called Safety Shield package is booked, traffic sign recognition, distance cruise control, lane keeping system and collision avoidance are also on board.
The latter occasionally acts a bit overly cautious. For example, if you want to maneuver close to an obstacle, you have to expect an anchor throw. The on-board computer sees the impending collision and activates the brake, which is then released again immediately after the change in direction. The technology works reliably, and it can also provide relief on longer motorway tours.
The engine lacks a bit of draft
These are not necessarily the domain of the Juke, because the only selectable engine for the time being, a one-liter three-cylinder with 117 hp, lacks a little pulling power. In any case, to reach the top speed of 180 km / h, it takes a lot of starting. The high speed also spoils the parallel rising wind noise and the thirst for fuel. The latter has leveled off at around 8 liters at the recommended speed. According to the manufacturer, the small engine in combination with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission should only consume 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers.
One experiences the new Juke in the city as quite pleasurable. In conjunction with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, which changes gears quickly, the small three-cylinder even looks lively. The turning circle is impressively small, and the steering is binding and direct. Accordingly, it is easy to feel tempted to shoo the 1.2-ton truck quickly around corners. Steering commands are implemented cleanly, the tendency to roll is moderate.
Wide C-pillar disturbs
When turning, however, the poor overview when looking over the shoulder thanks to the wide C-pillar can be annoying. The dynamic talent was also bought with a chassis stiffness that can be annoying on bumpy sections such as cobblestones. The rough running of the three-cylinder engine is also sometimes noticeable in city traffic.
Three-cylinder actually sounds like cheap prices, but with 19,000 euros for the base, the new Juke is on a compact level. The N-Design variant with 7-speed DCT costs as much as 28,000 euros. In addition, our test copy was equipped with amenities such as navigation, safety shield package, Bose sound, heated windscreen and two-tone paint, which drives the price to almost 31,000 euros. Progress - and the Juke has a lot to offer - has its price. (SP-X)
