Mercedes has subjected the Vito to a comprehensive model revision. The Transporter will now also be available in an E version.

The third generation of the Vito has been around since the end of 2014. Accordingly, it needed a refresh, and Mercedes has given this to its commercial vehicle: there is a new engine for the panel van models, a new electric variant for the Tourer versions for passenger transport and other assistance systems.

In 2018 Mercedes launched the electric Vito. So far, there has been the panel van and the tourer with a 116 hp electric motor. The 41 kWh battery is sufficient for a range of 150 to 184 kilometers. The e-Tourer will be upgraded in summer. It will receive the drive train of the electric V-Class (EQV), which will also make its debut in the middle of the year, and has a water-cooled on-board charger (OBL) with an output of 11 kW. The charging times vary, depending on the charging system, between 10 hours on the wallbox and up to 45 minutes on a quick charging station.

Electric tourer with 204 hp

Like the nobler model sister, the electric tourer has a maximum output of 204 hp. The 90 kWh battery enables ranges of up to 421 kilometers. The maximum speed is standard at 140 km / h, on request it can be increased to 160 km / h. As before, the trunk volume is between around 1000 and 1400 liters, depending on the selected body length.

The electric panel van remains unchanged in the range and continues to cost around 45,000 euros net / 53,600 euros gross. The new electric tourer certainly undercuts the price of the energizing V-Class, but should not be available for less than 65,000 euros net / 77,000 euros gross.

Two-liter diesel in use

As in the Tourer variants, the two-liter diesel (OM 654) is now used under the bonnet of the conventionally powered rear-wheel drive panel van models. The four-cylinder known from the Mercedes car range is available in four output levels (102 hp, 136 hp, 163 hp and 190 hp).

A 239 hp version is available as the top engine for the six-seater Vito Mixo with passenger car approval and the tourer. The two-liter diesel engine is said to impress with its reduced consumption and exhaust gas values as well as improved noise and vibration comfort. A nine-speed automatic transmits the drive force to the rear axle as standard. All-wheel drive is optionally available. For the panel van with front-wheel drive, the 1.7-liter diesel with 75 kW / 102 PS or 100 kW / 136 PS remains in the portfolio. Here a manual six-speed gearbox takes over the power transmission.

The entry-level Worker model with the 102 hp 1.7-liter diesel will continue to be offered for around 19,000 euros net / 22,600 euros gross. The price of the other variants that can be ordered from April should be slightly adjusted upwards. On request, they are now also available with an active brake and distance assistant and a digital interior mirror. Of course, the classic facelifts of the Vito are not missing either: a modified front, different fabrics for the seat covers and new light alloy rims upgrade the van. (SP-X)
