There are quite a few customers who demand sportiness from an SUV too. Anyone looking for such a model at Skoda will quickly end up with the Kodiaq RS.

Alongside the Karoq and the Kamiq with a length of 4.70 meters, the Kodiaq is not only the largest model in the Czech carmaker's SUV range, but also the sportiest: this is ensured by the RS in the model name. These two letters reach the customer, because around 20 percent choose this variant.

That they choose this variant is mainly due to the engine. In the Kodiaq RS, for example, a two-liter biturbodiesel with an output of 240 hp is used, which offers the driver a maximum torque of 500 Newton meters (1750 to 2500 revolutions). Not only does it sound promising, it also drives like that. In combination with the standard all-wheel drive and the precisely working seven-speed dual clutch transmission, this four-cylinder unit gets the Kodiaq, which weighs almost two tons, into gear with great power. The SUV flagship of the VW subsidiary completes the intermediate sprint in just 6.9 seconds, and the top speed is reached at 221 km / h.

Guaranteed good road holding

The diesel engine does its job extremely confidently, albeit audibly. Especially when you're out and about in sport mode at the touch of a button. Because then this tendency to sportiness is accompanied by a grumpy engine sound. You have to like that, I was rather annoyed. So be it: if you want to be sporty in this Kodiaq RS, you can do it pretty well. Thanks to the all-wheel drive and the well-coordinated chassis, this car with its wheelbase of 2.79 meters sits pretty well on the road. Anyone who drives on the country road with many curves will be pleasantly surprised at how unimpressed the 1.66 meter high Kodiaq is. Larger swaying movements are hardly noticeable even when cornering quickly - that's how it has to be.

But this thick ship can also be different: Just as you can live out your penchant for sportiness in this thick ship by pressing the sport mode, you can also do it in the opposite direction - namely in eco mode. On the go, the Kodiaq also noticeably retracts acoustically and lets the systems do their work as efficiently as possible. This means that the Kodiqa RS also proves to be a car that is extremely suitable for everyday use. However, we were unable to achieve the forecast consumption of 6.4 liters during the test drives. According to the on-board computer, we came to 7.8 liters in a third mix. For a car with this performance and weight, this is still an acceptable value.

Lots of space in the interior

Thanks to its dimensions, passengers can look forward to sufficient space in the interior - and that also applies to the passengers in the rear. Here you can comfortably cover longer distances even with a height of 1.90 meters. With a trunk volume of 650 liters, the Kodiaq also offers enough space for a trip on a family vacation. Space problems are alien in this vehicle. These are all aspects that make the Kodiaq so popular with customers: after eight months, almost 16,000 customers have already opted for the Czech flagship SUV. This makes it the fourth most popular model in the portfolio after the Octavia, Fabia and Karoq.

As is known from the Czechs, the Kodiaq also offers all the amenities in the interior that can be expected from a vehicle with a price of just under 50,000 euros. The sports seats are pleasantly contoured and offer good lateral support even when driving fast. The multi-function leather steering wheel lies comfortably in the hand and the processing quality is on the well-known Skoda level. In the sum of its properties, the Skoda Kodiaq RS leaves a coherent impression and is the right car for those who value not only space but also sportiness in an SUV.
