With the Kodiaq, Skoda is entering the larger SUV segment. The off-road vehicle named after a brown bear in Alaska is not only practical, but also extremely harmonious despite its stature.
No, Skoda does not give its customers a bear. Rather, the Czech VW subsidiary is adding another SUV to its range of models from March 4, 2017, which goes by the name of Kodiaq (named after a brown bear in Alaska). The new one is the big brother of the Yeti and is combined with a 92 kW / 125 PS petrol engine, front-wheel drive and decent basic equipment from 24,490 euros in the price list.
At 4.70 meters from bumper to bumper, the Skoda offshoot of the VW Tiguan already exceeds the dimensions of the compact segment. He towers over his gene donor by 21 centimeters. The Czech does not come across as a ruffian, but rather conceals his stockiness with a certain elegance.
Lots of space in the Skoda Kodiaq
And as with the Superb or Octavia, the Czech engineers convert the gain in length into optimal use of space for passengers and luggage. Not only the driver and front passenger enjoy the ample space, the users in the rear cannot complain either. The rear seating, a 60:40 split bench that can be moved lengthways by 18 centimeters, offers at least the outside users ample opportunity to stretch out. In the five-seat configuration, the luggage part holds up to 2065 liters, while the foldable passenger seat enables objects up to 2.80 meters long to be transported.
As a seven-seater, the loading compartment shrinks from 720 to 270 liters with full seating. The seats six and seven (surcharge: 890 euros for the basic version) can be easily boarded with a little skill and flexibility in the hips, but these backbenchers should not be longer than 1.70 meters. In addition, there is contact with the headliner and the knees have enemy contact with the backrests of the second row.
