Audi has increased the efficiency of the e-tron 55 quattro. The Ingolstadt-based electric car has a range of 25 kilometers more.
The VW subsidiary's electric SUV has a range of up to 436 kilometers on one battery charge according to the new WLTP cycle, as the carmaker announced in Ingolstadt on Thursday.

The increase in range was achieved thanks to a new wheel brake. This enabled the so-called residual braking torque losses to be further reduced.
Front electric motor disconnected
But the drive system has also become more efficient. In the Audi e-tron, for example, with the motor on the rear axle providing propulsion as standard, the front electric motor is almost completely decoupled and de-energized. Both engines are only used again when the driver requests more power.
As a further efficiency measure, the usable area of the high-voltage battery has increased. The 95 kWh battery of the Audi e-tron 55 quattro now provides 86.5 kWh of energy. In addition, Audi has also revised the thermal management, which is now supposed to cool the high-voltage components even more efficiently. The volume flows in the coolant circuit are reduced. As a result, the pump uses less electricity. The cooling system guarantees fast DC charging, a long battery life and reproducible driving performance. The standard heat pump uses the waste heat from the high-voltage components to heat the interior. This can result in range advantages of up to ten percent.
All newly produced models benefit from the technology upgrade. The starting price of 80,900 euros remains the same for the e-tron 55 quattro.
Second engine for e-tron Sportback
In addition to these increases in efficiency, Audi announced a second engine version for the market launch of the e-tron Sportback. The e-tron 50 quattro has an output of 230 kW. The battery capacity is 71 kWh. This enables an electric range of up to 336 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. As a Sportback variant, it is up to 347 kilometers. The Audi e-tron 50 quattro costs 69,100 euros, the Sportback 50 quattro 71,350 euros. With this price, both vehicles benefit from the state purchase premium.
