The new Mercedes GLA will be at dealerships from spring next year. Then the compact SUV comes up with a multitude of interesting innovations.
The second generation of the Mercedes GLA remains true to its more dynamic lifestyle design, but now adds more practical properties. The new edition of the compact SUV will initially be available from European dealers in two drive versions from the spring, followed by the launch in China and the USA.

The designers retained the lively overall appearance of the crossover. However, the body is ten centimeters higher and one and a half centimeters shorter - probably in response to criticism from customers for whom the GLA was too cramped for a Mercedes. For the new version, the manufacturer is now promising more headroom in the front and significantly more leg room in the rear. The trunk is also growing: from 421 to 435 liters. A sliding back seat and a height-adjustable loading floor should ensure variability.
MBUC now also in the GLA
The new MBUX infotainment system, familiar from the other A-Class models, moves into the cockpit, with powerful voice control, a head-up display and a high degree of networking. As usual, the arsenal of assistants is extensive, including a traffic jam assistant and an emergency lane assistant.
The pedestrian detection also reacts to pedestrians who are still moving on the sidewalk. On the autobahn, the GLA uses surrounding vehicles and recognized lane markings for the latter at speeds below 60 km / h. Two petrol engines are initially available for the drive. The preliminary basic engine is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder with 163 hp, coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. The GLA 35 AMG with a 2.0-liter turbo, 306 hp and all-wheel drive is an alternative, and at the same time, the top model for the time being. The range will be expanded after the market launch, including several diesels and a smaller gasoline engine.
Plug-in hybrids are also available
Some engines can be combined with all-wheel drive technology, which, unlike its predecessor, now works electromechanically. The new plug-in hybrid in the GLA, which should enable an electric range of 70 kilometers, has not yet been specified in more detail. An expansion of the purely electric EQ series to include an EQA based on the GLA is planned for the course of the new year.
If you take the GLA off-road with you, you can fall back on an off-road technology package that includes electronic driving mode control, hill descent aid and matrix LED headlights that are supposed to illuminate the surrounding terrain particularly well. The prices for the new GLA are not yet known. Initially, they should start at around 33,000 euros for the GLA 200. (SP-X)
