A self-respecting car maker also has a sports offshoot. At BMW it is M GmbH, at Mercedes AMG. Seat is going a different way and has founded its own brand with Cupra.

Cupra? Do you know? Right. So far, Seat has marked its particularly sporty vehicles with this addition in the model name. But that was not enough for the Spaniards, who were used to success. They preferred to make Cupra an independent brand right away.

The Ateca is the first model with the sporty genes of Cupra and with the new logo. It is a compact SUV - and ensures bright eyes for all those customers who value high performance and dynamic driving dynamics.

Anyone who chooses the Cupra Ateca will not be disappointed. The Spaniards gave their first vehicle a 2.0 four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It has an output of 300 hp. It not only sounds good, it also drives that way. Because thanks to a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters, the compact SUV not only has an extremely powerful start, but also has good sprinting capabilities. It only takes 5.2 seconds to reach 100 km / h. The top speed is reached at 247 km / h. And the consumption? Combined, it should be 7.4 liters. During the test drives, we came to 8.8 liters.

But that's just the pure performance data - it feels even better when you're out and about in the Cupra Ateca. In spite of its sporty design, the compact SUV proves to be an extremely comfortable vehicle: with it you can easily take a trip on a short vacation. Sure, the chassis of the Cupra is designed to be extremely tight (as are the sports seats, by the way). But the suspension engineers have succeeded in balancing sportiness and comfort.

Even after an hour-long drive from Berlin to the Allgäu, you can get out of the Spaniard's sports SUV quite relaxed. The driving mode switch also ensures this. With it you can not only switch from “normal” to “comfort”, but also to “sport” and “individual”. For those who need it and want to push their sportiness to the limit, their lap times including lateral acceleration can also be shown in the infotainment display. Well, something like that belongs to a sports brand.

There is something for every driving situation

It is clear that the Cupra can take the Autobahn. If you don't just want to swim with the traffic on the motorway, but also want to set yourself up in the left lane (which of course you don't do permanently), you can do so. When the accelerator is pressed, the Cupra Ateca in combination with the well-coordinated seven-speed DSG pushes one forward with great force. But the Cupra Ateca is really fun off the highway.

He is in his element on the winding country roads in the Allgäu. It accelerates harmoniously out of the curve without exertion, thanks to the all-wheel drive the Cupra Ateca doesn’t get upset that quickly. This sovereignty gives the driver a good feeling. The price for the Cupra is 43,420 euros. The Spaniards see themselves well positioned between the significantly more expensive models from Mercedes-AMG and BMW M.

Judging by his demeanor and the good overall impression, the new Cupra brand could be something. After all, sportiness is always well received by customers - especially in the target group of 40 to 59 year olds. Anyone who thinks that Cupra especially appeals to men is wrong. Those responsible assume an equal distribution between men and women.
